SUMMARY
Bonfire is seeking a hands-on, analytical Senior Accountant who thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and enjoys taking ownership of complex, cross-functional financial work. This role plays a key part in strengthening Bonfire’s Finance operations – supporting accurate financial reporting, improving processes, partnering across teams, and ensuring smooth payroll and benefits integration from a financial perspective.
The ideal candidate brings strong accounting fundamentals, curiosity, and a continuous-improvement mindset. This role offers the opportunity to take on increasing responsibility across the Finance function as Bonfire grows.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Accounting:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records, including general ledger entries, accounts payable, and payroll/benefits.
- Prepare monthly financial statements, reports and supporting schedules..
- Own components of the month-end close with increasing responsibility over time.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP,, company policies, and regulatory requirements.
- Assist with the preparation of tax filings, financial audits, and other compliance activities.
- Identify and implement opportunities for process improvements within accounting workflows and financial systems.
Payroll & Benefits Administration:
- Maintain payroll records and prepare payroll reports for management review.
- Reconcile payroll activity to the general ledger and ensure accuracy and timeliness of submissions.
- Resolve payroll-related inquiries and discrepancies in collaboration with internal teams and our payroll provider.
- Work with benefits partners and HR stakeholders to ensure accurate processing and integration with financial systems.
- Stay current with payroll and benefits regulations and industry trends.
Cross Functional Support & Projects:
- Partner with Finance leadership on special projects, operational initiatives, and reporting enhancements.
- Participate in continuous improvement efforts to increase efficiency, accuracy, and transparency in financial processes.
- Collaborate across teams to support financial clarity and alignment.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 3–5 years of relevant experience, ideally combining public accounting or consulting with industry experience.
- Experience with payroll reconciliation and benefits integration strongly preferred.
- CPA or MBA a plus.
Technical Skills
- Proficiency with accounting systems (e.g., NetSuite) and payroll systems (e.g., Paycom).
- Advanced spreadsheet skills and comfort working with large data sets.
- Strong understanding of GAAP, payroll practices, and benefits-related regulations.
- Comfort adapting to new technologies and contributing to process improvements.
